Grading
Every student that wishes to have a black belt some day must work there way up through the grades (different colour belts). To achieve a higher grade they must show that they are capable of a certain standard of karate, and to show this they should be able to perform some basic moves and forms that reflect their skill. Grading usually take place every 3 to 4 months, depending on the students and their ability. But in the North Fingal Shotokan Group the grading is not all that is required, as all students are also monitored by a continual assessment by the instructors.
